Wednesday Obsessions: “Everything Old is New Again” May 9, 2012

Yo Deb readers, welcome to the third installment of our weekly newsflash for all things up-and-coming, ‘Wednesday Obsessions’. We are excited to bring you the latest info on people, places and things being discussed around the world and around the world wide web. Start following us to receive an email each week when a new W.O. post is published!

NOTES OF RELEVANCE: Vintage fashion inspiring contemporary fashion came to a head last night at the annual Costume Institute Ball at the Metropolitan Museum of Art, the exhibition for which aligns the design work of Elsa Schiaparelli (20s to 50s) with Miuccia Prada (80s to present) in Impossible Conversations… This season designers are inspired by fashions from the 50s, 60s, and 80s… Often in stores designer looks from today are styled with items from decades past – think Ralph Lauren’s windows that feature old fisherman garments and tools, Brooks Brothers with hunting items… We’ve noticed recently that baristas from independently-owned coffee shops across the country are wearing turn of the century items to spice up their daily ‘uniforms’, just one more ‘hip’ factor to add to gourmet coffee… If you prefer comfort over high fashion, remember that you can tailor all of your vintage pieces (note: waists were smaller and cinched in back then, but yours doesn’t have to be!)… We’d love to know some of your favorite vintage stores in cities visited, post comments here!
