THE POINT RESORT, ADIRONDACKS (NY)
The Point is part of the Adirondack Great Camps, which were getaways originally established for wealthy city inhabitants that wanted a change of pace with a lake & mountain view. According to the intriguing description on its web site, The Point is “a vibrant and exclusive house party, an elegant hideaway, the essence of rustic splendor, luxury and whimsy amid Adirondack Mountain wilderness.” It’s just too bad that after a weekend at the Point you can’t Polly-Pocket the resort right into your Deano for future stay-cations at home.
For those less of the ‘solitude’ set and more of the active, Keswick Hall offers its visitors the perfect country weekend within the confines of the resort, which is surrounded by the Blue Ridge Mountains: swimming, fly fishing, golf and tennis is just a selection of the things you can do during a stay at this beautiful resort… However, if you’re part of a less sporty family, pack up the Deano and set off on one of the property’s trails for a peaceful afternoon with great food and good company as you dine within steps of the property.
GROVE PARK INN, ASHEVILLE (NC)
A separate stay in Asheville, NC is a must for all of that city’s shopping and dining attractions, but just beyond it is the Grove Park Inn, set between the Blue Ridge and Great Smoky Mountains. One main attraction that we recommend? A rafting or kayaking tour along the French Broad River, courtesy of the Nantahala Outdoor Center’s Asheville location, conveniently located on inside the Grove Park Inn. After your day on the river, consider kicking back at the Hotel’s spa. This place has just about everything you could possibly need or want out of a ‘mountain retreat’!
WINVIAN, LITCHFIELD HILLS (CT)
For the family or couple that wants to have an ‘independent’ vacation, we suggest the Winvian, which is comprised of 18 cottages and one main area, the Gordon Brown House. Winvian boasts, “Surrounding us and directly accessible from our grounds is the famous White Memorial Foundation with 4000 acres” – there is certainly no shortage of activity, and, depending on the season, you can go from horse-back riding in the summer and fall to snowshoeing in the winter. Similar to the Point in the Adirondacks, Winvian is located in Litchfield Hills, CT, so for the city-set this is the perfect weekend getaway!
MOUNTAIN LODGE, TELLURIDE (CO)
The coolest thing about the Mountain Lodge in Telluride (besides it’s being in Telluride!) is the cabins*, each of which offers direct access to the slopes. With cabin-amenities that include gas fireplaces and grills, it might be hard to leave the Mountain Lodge… but leave you must, to enjoy the beauty that the surrounding area has to offer. From paragliding to lounging in hot springs, this time of year in Telluride is ideal for most types of vacationers, from the extreme-sportsmen and women to the more leisure-oriented groups.
*For those looking to spend less or those who will eat in town, Mountain Lodge has individual rooms which can be rented for days at a time.

THE NEWS FROM NEWPORT:
-Between June 23rd and July 1st, if you’re in the Northeast try to visit Newport, RI while it hosts the America’s Cup World Series… It’s the last stop for the competitors so it will no doubt be a party! Take along some SCOUT from our Newport-inspired and nautical-themed navy & coral story: we chose the Original Deano in Barbara Stripesand Coral, the Pleasure Chest in Barbara Stripesand Coral and the Totes Ma Goat in Indigo Go.
STAY HERE:
-Stay at (option 1), the Castle Hill Inn – the ultimate Newport hotel; then dine at the Castle Hill Inn’s restaurant and watch the boats come in after a day on the water!
-Stay at (option 2), the Vanderbilt Grace Hotel, which houses all the comforts of home in colorful decor found throughout the space.
EAT HERE:
-One iconic Newport restaurant is without question the Black Pearl - come here for great service in an easygoing and social atmosphere – the perfect spot to casually unwind!

-For those in the ‘sailing know’, grab a drink at Café Zelda, where you’ll most likely run into sailors (read: Newport celebs) having finished up their day.
ACTIVITIES & WALK AROUNDS:
-Don’t miss a walk through Bannister’s Wharf – aside from the Atlantic as a focal point, consider Bannister’s Wharf the ‘epicenter’ of dining and shopping in Newport.
-Tour historic Fort Adams for a special ‘village setup’ in honor of the America’s Cup (and check back for info on its upcoming 4th of July/fireworks celebration!)
-For those whose eyes wander from the Atlantic or those who tend to get seasick, why don’t you explore more dry land Newport activities and play a little lawn tennis at the Hall of Fame Lawn Tennis Courts.

-Get ‘Cup ready’ with a stop in Island Outfitters for fashion trained with a nautical eye… from blue to coral stripes, there are sweaters to keep you warm and dresses to keep you looking Newport chic on summer nights.

-For the urban style set, shop at Laura Jean, where the jeans-wearing crew will be in denim heaven.
-Shop at Michael Hayes for fab luxury fashion, where you can quite easily grab the perfect outfit for an evening out.
Last night, the SCOUT team in Dallas traveled south of the city and had the pleasure of exploring the Bishop Arts District. This hidden gem was full of funky, rustic chic establishments that more importantly were staffed with friendly faces. We love the South!*
Inspired by the eclectic vibe of this little neighborhood, we had to feature it as a Dallas Find and let the world know about this secret.
Among the many cool spots in Bishop Arts District, we have to highlight two for having the the whole package. First stop on our tour was Dude, Sweet. That is correct, it was called Dude, Sweet. The group of guys behind this chocolate shop indulged us with a few of their favorite things including the Crack in Box chocolate bars and the Ice Cream a la Nitrogen Tank. From the customer service to the packaging, we loved everything about Dude, Sweet, so much so that we had to purchase t-shirts and pose with the team!
The last stop on our tour de force, was Tillmans Roadhouse. This long time establishment has been open for the last 20 years, but pulled off an amazing renovation 5 years ago that embodies New York meets Texas. Shot gun door handles graced the entrance, but 10 crystal chandeliers welcomed us into the dining area. Along with the amazing decor, the indulgent down home cooking made gluttons of the SCOUT team. We tried the goat cheese tater tots, fried pickles, mac and cheese, and the perfectly glazed baked chicken. The piece de resistance was saved for the end when our waiter brought out a plate of smores featuring homemade marshmallows in a variety of flavors including cotton candy, pistachio, and maple.
We cannot say enough good things about Bishop Arts Districts vibe. It seems to have the best of all worlds with hip style and a southern attitude. We cant wait to hit up this spot again when we are back in Dallas!

-If you have the dough to spend – and even if you don’t – enjoy a rich fashion experience at Five Story NY, a new multi-level store (it’s in an Upper East Side townhouse) that is both well-curated and filled with friendly sales associates, each of whom holds an impressive amount of fashion knowledge to answer questions about designers featured in and out of the store. Eloise may have had a room at the Plaza, but we’re clawing for a room at Five Story NY! -If you associate summer with classic surfer motifs and beach sents, engage your summer senses with a visit to Warm Boutique in NoLita, which houses clothing designs from Tracy Feith, Swildens, and M. NYC FOOD-FLASH:
-Georgetown Cupcake (for those who care) has opened an NYC outpost in uber-trendy SoHo.
-In actually fab eatery news, The Park in Chelsea is a perfect destination for attentive service, delicious and innovative cuisine, as well as a very hip interior with a ‘greenhouse’ style vibe. Visit The Park’s web site here, and see a solid review from NY Magazine here.
-Also in Chelsea, Cookshop is becoming better and better known as more people flock to its doors for the delicious, often locally-sourced food as well as the easygoing vibe in its kitchen. The cuisine is taken from Mediterranean and American concepts (a win-win as far as we’re concerned!); find directions & hours as well as a history of the restaurant here.
-Check out some of NYC’s best food trucks, as selected by NYC editors at Refinery29. Our favorites include Comme Ci Comme Ca for yummy Moroccan (and don’t miss the cous cous, so fluffy!); Frites n’ Meats, which gets meat and cheeses from well-known NYC restaurants; Milk Truck Grilled Cheese, which boasts the ‘perfect’ proportions of cheese to bread to condiments – and delish milkshakes; Taim has out of this world falafel, and is about to set up in a new downtown outpost – stay tuned!
-Without a doubt our newest food obsession is Tacombi, a Mexican taqueria ‘village’ of sorts – you’ll need to see it to believe it – SO cool! The NYTimes did a quick review from when it first opened a couple of years ago. Visit the main web site for the menu and locations here.
-LIVE LIFE ‘BY THE BEAN’: though coffee addicts can be pretty strictly ‘by the book’ in terms of what they like and who’s brewing it for them, but we recommend you check out the following NYC coffee shops for nifty vibes and, most importantly, coffee that gets the job done and leaves you (of course) wanting more… Toby’s Estate comes to Williamsburg, Brooklyn originally from Australia, and thank goodness they decided on a US outpost! – with great coffee but also great instruction by the T.E. team for brewing your own, you may find it tough to class any other bean institution so high on your list; located in Midtown, Zibetto Expresso Bar has been hailed by NY Magazine as “pulling and serving the hands-down best espresso drinks we’ve had in recent memory” – see their full review here, and visit the main web site here; Magnolia Bakery’s Rockefeller Center outpost is conveniently located nearby Zibetto so you can have your (cup)cake and eat it, too!.
